Q: Tell us about your company. What is your focus?
A: My father, Ron Petrucci, founded avalanche in 1987. We’re still family owned and operated, and our focus has always been to offer top quality outdoor and active style garments to our consumer at competitive prices.
Q: What would you say makes your business unique?
A: We have direct relationships with our retail partners, and we work together with them in order to customize the perfect product as offerings to their customer.
Q: Describe your company’s current marketing plan.
A: We plan to focus on communicating directly with our consumer via social media. We also partner with retailers to fund promotions and advertising directly to their customer base.
Q: What have been your greatest challenges in this industry?
A: The transition from manufacturing garments in our own factories here in North America, to sub-contracting to factories abroad was a major challenge for us. There were some years where we purposely kept our distribution manageable until we were able to build successful partnerships and grow our capacity overseas.
Q: Do you have any special plans for the show?
A: We’re here at the OR show to enjoy the industry. It’s exciting to see what everyone is up to, and how each company decides to promote their brand. We’re also, of course, here to introduce our fall 2014 collection to potential new customers, as well as finalize programs and reiterate ideas with existing customers.
Q: Are you promoting a single product or service?
A: We’re not promoting one single product or service, but we definitely have our focus in terms of what type of products have been successful for our customers at the retail level.
Q: Are you introducing any new products at the show?
A:We’re introducing our new space dye Calypso Active tops. They’re made with a special fabric that is not only highly breathable and superbly insulating; there is a gorgeous visual texture, which compliments the truly fashionable design of the Calypso tops.
Q: Which of your products are the most popular?
A: In general, our most popular items are mid-weight tops for both men and women. We build our collections around unique fabrics, anything with an amazing hand, interesting texture or visual appeal paired with technology to keep the wearer warm, dry and comfortable in various environments. Our women’s Mogul Pant is also amongst our best sellers. There is something about a soft and stretchy with an amazing ‘spongy’ hand, consumers just can’t get enough of it.
Q: What makes your company different from the competition?
A: We base our model on two important characteristics, product and partnership. We build product at moderate prices without sacrificing technology, quality or uniqueness of design. We’re also very conscious of the trust it takes in order for our retail partners to put their investments into our product.
Q: How do you handle sales and/or distribution?
A: We work directly with our customers in order to put together the best program to fit their plan and goals. We distribute from a central warehouse in California, very close to the Long Beach port of entry.
Q: Who are your end users?
A: Our end user is the price savvy, style conscious consumer who understands what it takes to stay comfortable in various climates, and absolutely does not want to sacrifice quality. We have a direct voice form our end users in our own boutique near our New England headquarters, so we’re able to gather feedback directly from the source.
Q: How do you see your company’s future in terms of economy, sales, technology and product evolution?
A: We’re continuously developing offerings based on the inspiration from our customers, and their successes with our product. Our niche of building top quality garments with interesting technologies at fair pricing has driven us to expand our supplier base. This in turn has helped us to develop a well-rounded collection, and as we continue to innovate and become savvier in regard to what the end user is asking of us, we’re seeing growth based on those successes.
Q: To what do you attribute your company’s success?
A: The basis for our success is simple, deliver great product and drive our retail partner’s sell through. Everything we develop must to go through intense scrutiny; we gauge the uniqueness of style, quality of materials, cost fairness and deliver ability. We stay true to our niche, which has proven to be a successful position in the industry.

Princeton Tec to Introduce New Products at 2014 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market
Sync Headlamp, Remix Rechargeable Headlamp, Meridian Strobe and Sector Spotlight Series Among New Products to be Unveiled
BORDENTOWN, N.J. — Princeton Tec, manufacturer of headlamps and personal lighting for the Outdoor, Tactical, Industrial, Bike and SCUBA markets, has announced they will be unveiling several new products at their booth (#24001) during the 2014 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, Utah.
When developing the 90 lumen Sync, PTEC began with their proven, stable asymmetrical single arm bracket, integrating essential lighting modes to please a wide variety of discerning users, and tied it all together with an easy to use interface. Sync allows direct access to a red LED, spot beam, and flood beam by a twist of the power dial. For those times that require max output a further rotation of the dial accesses a dual beam mode - spot and flood at the same time.
Starting with the hybrid LED array of the Remix headlamp, the 185 lumen Remix Rechargeable gains a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, rear mounted for balance and as a platform for flashing rear lights. A weather sealed micro-USB port allows for charging, monitored by built in battery power meter. This dual fuel light can run on three AAA batteries should the need arise. Head rotates back to protect power button during storage and transport.
Princeton Tec will also showcase the following versatile new lights, including:
• Meridian Strobe – The Meridian LED emergency strobe and locator light is visible for over a mile. The body is designed to be low-profile and adaptable to a wide range of uses: easy attachment to PFD, SCUBA tank or any 1 inch webbing is possible. The toggle switch allows for operation of red and white strobing modes. Built to withstand the rigors of diving, the light is waterproof to the IPX8 standard.
• Sector 5 – This Sector 5 packs a powerful 550 lumen beam with the convenience of a pistol grip for momentary or constant illumination. Four C-cell batteries minimize bulk while providing ten hours of burn time. The new trigger switch design is easy to use with gloved hands; access momentary on via a half-pull and constant on via full pull. The switch also locks out to prevent accidental illumination and battery drain while in transit or storage.
